Authentic Afghan Mashwani Rug
Defined by its exceptionally detailed geometric field and warm, earthy palette, this handmade Afghan Mashwani rug is a beautiful expression of traditional Afghan textile craftsmanship. Hundreds of interlocking geometric motifs create an intricate all-over design, framed by multiple linear borders that give the piece a refined and balanced appearance.
The rug is handmade using 100% hand-spun Ghazni wool over a cotton foundation. Ghazni wool is prized in Afghan rug making for its natural character and durability, while the use of hand-spun yarn gives the finished surface an organic texture that cannot be replicated by mass-produced rugs.
Its colours are created using natural vegetable dyes, producing beautifully nuanced shades of rust, terracotta, earthy red, brown and muted neutral tones. Rather than overpowering a room, the restrained palette allows the complexity of the weaving to become the defining feature.
